When thinking about things I love – baking has to feature high up in this category…so when it is Baker-baker day at my daughter’s school, I’m always ready to have some fun!
I love baking and trying out new recipes – it’s one of my favourite hobbies! I can spend hours perusing beautiful foodie Insta pages, have a rather larger-than-is-totally-acceptable recipe book collection – and watch The Great British Bake off with relish every year when it comes around! My admiration for these celebrity (and non-celebrity) chefs is great- but I doubt I could produce anything so spectacular. Instead I just admire their talent from a distance!
However, when my daughter is the baker for Baker-baker day at the little preschool she attends-that is a challenge that I can rise to! after all, kids are so much easier to please than judges…😉
So – our theme for Baker-Baker was farm animals – and I had just the perfect thing to make! (keeping in mind that these were for small children age 18months – 4years ☺️)
Enter little Mr and Miss Piggy…
Baker Baker Day Treats for school
EASY PARTY TREATS FOR CHILDREN by Janette Mocke
My idea came from the gorgeous book by Janette Mocke “Easy Party treats for children”…
This book is packed full of delicious treats to make, bake and enjoy. It is divided into various categories. Some categories are actually the item that you will be using, like cones, marshmallows, Marie biscuits or Rice Krispies.
I started out by mixing up some pale pink Royal Icing (my all-time favourite Royal Icing recipe is by Australian Women’s Weekly). There is also a buttercream recipe in the Easy Party Treats that I must still try. I am a creature of habit, I know, I know – I tend to just stick to my tried and trusted. 😉
Next I lined up all my biscuits and piped an outline onto them. While that was busy drying I laid out all of my supplies – Marie Biscuits, marshmallows, Smarties and Jelly Tots…
I cut my marshmallows and grouped my Jelly tots and Smarties together in coloured pairs so that it would be easier to put them on the biscuits when I was ready to! (But then I am a little bit OCD that way! 😂)
By now my outline icing had dried nicely and I was able to flood the centre of the biscuits and put on the snout, ears, Jelly Tots and Smarties – and voila!…this little piggy was ready to go to market – he was done staying at home! 🐷😊🐷
