A little bit about the author Melissa Michaels
Melissa Michaels is the creator behind The Inspired Room – an award-winning decorating blog. Her blog is designed to help you love the home you have. On her blog she shares inspiration and ideas for decorating, homemaking and organisation in every room. She also shares many posts on a variety of home-related topics.
Melissa Michaels is also the author of numerous books – her book Love the home you have (2015) is a New York Time Best Seller. Her other book The Inspired Room (2015) is one of my favourites! (Well, along with her new book which we are going to talk about today, of course!)
So – after that introduction I’ll get straight back to Melissa Michaels’ new book Simple Organizing…50 ways to clear the clutter (2018).
The blurb says the following:
“Bring order and Purpose to Every room in your home…Getting organized can feel like an overwhelming task, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. (So far, so good!) To simplify the process, start with the end goal in mind. Visualize the atmosphere you want to create. Your home can be a comfortable and beautiful haven for the people you love… Featuring more than 300 simple and stress-free organization tips, Simple Organizing will inspire you to streamline your life and maintain order in every room.” Yes!!!
A little bit about Simple Organizing
The book is divided into different sections:
- Entrances
- Living spaces
- Kitchen and dining room
- Master bedroom
- Bathrooms
- Kids’ room
- Home office
- Creative spaces
Each section is filled with numbered ideas on how to simplify and beautify your living space easily. Simple Organizing starts with your entrance – which is obviously the first impression that anybody will take away from visiting your home. I really like how she encourages her readers to take a look at your entrance as if you were a guest coming into your home. It certainly puts great perspective on an area in our homes that is often neglected or not given much thought. But this is ultimately the room/area that sets the impression for your entire home!
In her book Simple Organizing, Melissa Michaels encourages you to create a simple checklist to follow. This helps you stay focused and not be overwhelmed when simplifying/organising your home. She lays out a simple plan which covers a few steps which include choosing daily tasks, putting things away daily, have designated places in your home for small items, plan time during each week for putting items away, etc.
This book also offers great storage ideas for items in many different rooms within your home, as well as a few smaller, less thought about organising tips – from power cleaning your kitchen to how to prep your purse!
There are really sooo many useful tips in this book – that no matter what sort of home you want or plan to have – you are sure to find some great advise here!
The 3 things that I like the most about this book:
- It’s so small and compact – but it has so much information in it!
- It is broken up into compact sections – this makes it easy to tackle your home room by room; and so easy to find your spot if you put the book down to carry on where you left off.
- It is beautifully laid-out with great photos – so much inspiration!
There are two other books in this series – Simple Gatherings and Simple Decorating. I have read Simple Decorating and love it just as much, (perhaps I will write a future post about it…) and have Simple Gatherings on my wish list for purchasing in the very near future!
These would make delightful (and very useful!) gifts…
Happy reading…and organising!
