I’m can’t wait to tell you all about the fabulous weekend getaway my husband Ben and I went on. And of course to encourage you to book a similar vacation for yourself in the near future…because it is so worth it! It truly is such a great experience.

But firstly , let me start by telling you a little bit about where we stayed…

57 Waterberg Luxury Game Lodge

57 Waterberg is situated in the Welgevonden Game Reserve. It forms part of the Waterberg Biosphere Reserve which has been declared is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. The game lodge is an easy travelling distance from Johannesburg and Pretoria – roughly three hours driving time. However, if driving isn’t your thing…You can also charter a private flight to take you directly to Welgevonden, if you so desire!

But – an azure pool on the deck at the main lodge caters for everyone and ensures that you can relax and enjoy breathtaking views after your game drive!

There is also WiFi at the main lodge. This is great for those who like to stay in touch and keep sharing their Instagram moments! 😊

Activities

Let me start by saying that the aim of a game lodge getaway is to RELAX… Therefore the goal is to not be involved in too many activities. Other than those that you wish or choose to do, of course!

At 57 Waterberg there are two game drives offered per day – early morning and again in the afternoon. (Times for these drives vary according to the seasons.) These game drives are not to be missed – unless you are like us and choose to sleep in one morning instead…😉 #reallife #parentproblems

However, we did go on all the other game drives and thoroughly enjoyed seeing giraffe, elephants, buck, zebra, rhino, lions and more!

In your free time you can enjoy the splash pool, read a book. Or alternatively choose to just chill on the deck and enjoy the great food prepared by the chefs!

Dining

After your morning game drive, enjoy breakfast on the deck. Lunch is served at around 2.30pm and a three-course dinner after the evening game drive.

Hopefully my photos of the food will give you a better idea of what to expect…yum!

Game drives

Set out with your game ranger into the bush to find and learn more about the wildlife we have here in Africa. The game rangers are very friendly and knowledgable and will happily answer any of your questions. They will also try help you get the perfect photo when you have an animal sighting! If the early morning cool breeze or late afternoon sunset leaves you a bit chilly – a poncho is provided! So no need to worry – everything is taken care of! Your game ranger will also find a spot to stop and offer you drinks and snacks midway through your game drive. This is also great for stretching your legs and admiring the majestic setting!
