So my eldest son Grant was super excited when he discovered that dogs also have birthdays…!!! We immediately had to start planning a pups first birthday party! 😂
Needless to say – he was quite determined that we had to have a party for them – especially for a first birthday, as that was a super important birthday, afterall!
So I set out to plan a small birthday party for the pups… with short notice and on a budget! Luckily I had quite a few party props from previous parties that tied in perfectly with our “doggy” theme. My younger son had a puppy party for his 2nd birthday – and my eldest son had a Hot Wheels birthday party for his 5th birthday – complete with lots of trophies! Then for my son’s 6th birthday there was the soccer party that I used fake grass for… you get the idea! 😉 I had lots of great props that I had stored – so I could whip up this party in a few days!
We invited a few friends to come join in the celebrations on Friday afternoon after school. And then I set to work…
My mom made the delicious birthday cake (for human consumption!) while I made each of the pups a birthday muffin with a doggy friendly recipe I found on the internet. 😊
So, without too much fuss we added a few sandwiches, cupcakes with oreo biscuit toppers, some homemade doggy and bone shaped biscuits, chips, a few sweets, cooldrink – and we were all set for an afternoon of fun!
Tips for planning a quick and easy party:
- Think about doing a theme that uses decor items that you already have
- Use e-vites or store bought cards for invitations
- Buy store-bought food that you can decorate to fit your theme easily (cakes, cupcakes, meringues, etc).
- Candy table – so quick and easy set up – and who doesn’t love sweets?
- Bought party banners, balloons, pinwheels and toppers for colour and decor
- Bubbles or other easily bought gifts for party favours
