Less House More Home in 2020 – dreams for our home!

Well hi there! Before I kick off this post with my dreams and plans for less house more home in 2020 – I thought it would be fun to do a quick recap on what we managed to achieve in our home in 2019. I did write a post with my 2019 plans here, if you missed it!

So here’s the recap…

MY SON’S SHARED BEDROOM

So the first plan that I mentioned for last year was that my son’s shared bedroom needed a bookshelf! And I am happy to report back that mid-way through last year the bookshelf happened! Here are the before and after photos. I am very happy with the result – and grateful to have more storage space for books and prized LEGO pieces! PS: We also painted the boys’ cupboard doors as a temporary fix – and they look soooo much better! The light fitting was adjusted to be higher and we re-did the flooring that was lifting as a result of damp. I haven’t replaced the curtains yet…maybe this year? But all in all I’d say that this space was a win!

MASTER BEDROOM

We also re-did the flooring in the master bedroom and removed the window bench – which was literally falling apart! Despite looking high and low for a new small bench to put in this spot, I haven’t had any luck yet – so for now I’m still just enjoying the empty canvas! One day I will find the perfect piece of furniture to go here! #fingerscrossed

UPSTAIRS LIVING ROOM

Our upstairs living room did get a little bit of love last year … a fresh coat of paint, a few new cushions as well as mounting the TV on the wall! I feel a lot better about the TV being off of the unit and on the wall with an almost three-year old in the house!

Oh, and probably the biggest win for 2019…we removed our bar and converted the space into a study! Best. decision. ever!!! The space is so much more useful and functional for our family now.

I am still waiting to install a new light fitting in the study and get new office chairs! As soon as that’s done I’ll share the space with you – and I can’t wait!!! The photo above is of the open shelving …my decor also still needs a bit of tweaking – but it will get there! So keep an eye on this space…

GARDEN

We removed two cordulyn trees from our garden early last year – if you missed the post about that, you can check it out here… And apart from that, not too much has changed – other than that I have been nurturing my hydrangeas, roses and new leopard tree!

But there are some exciting plans in the works for the garden this year – so keep reading!

LESS HOUSE MORE HOME – PLANS FOR 2020

Ok – so that was quite a bit of a recap! But luckily we don’t have too many home plans for 2020, so the rest of the post should read quickly!

Some of our home plans for 2020 we have already actually done! We have replaced a few of our taps, for example, as they were leaking and or broken. They’ve all just been smaller, more maintenance projects. Neccessary for the upkeep of a home – but by no means pretty! 😂

NURSERY TO LITTLE GIRL’S ROOM

One of the slightly bigger projects I have on my list for this year is to convert my daughter’s room from a baby girl’s room to a toddler room. However, when I planned her nursery, I kept in mind that she would outgrow it in just a few short years (#whydotheygrowupsofast) …so there aren’t really too many major changes to be done. I will have to sell her cot (which I am very heartsore about, as I adore it!) and I would like to add a reading corner. Perhaps I will add some shelving for books, as she has hundreds! 😂

GUEST BEDROOM

Our guest bedroom upstairs is in need of some TLC! It is the one room in the house where we haven’t replaced the carpets, and I would love to install the same LVP as we have in the other rooms in our home. It is also the hottest room in our house – so an airconditioner is starting to feel like more of a neccesity than a luxury! 😂 However, we haven’t looked into this at all yet, so it’s just on the list – and I’m not sure if it will happen…but I’ll just put it out there!

GARDEN

So – this is where a lot of the attention is going in 2020…

We are planning to get an irrigation system installed in our garden this year. When we bought our home, there was a system installed, but it is old and currently there isn’t enough water pressure for the system to work efficiently.

To proceed with the irrigation system, we are planning to get borehole water on our property – which should be fairly easy to do as we live close to water. This will hopefully solve the issue of water pressure and we can update our irrigation system!

And the other big garden project for 2020 is – my daughter is getting a playhouse for her birthday this year! And it is going to be installed in our garden.

This has been a dream since she was only a couple of months old – so to say that I am excited is an understatement!

I have spent months and months (and years!) dreaming and searching on Pinterest for ideas of how I am going to decorate it and have just ordered her little kitchen set from Amazon the other day…I’ll link it here for you, as it is currently on sale!

I am so excited about our playhouse project and will share all the details with you as and when they happen! So stay tuned!

And as I’ve been shopping everything playhouse – I’m thinking about doing a blog post on all the great things you can use to decorate your play house with. If that’s something that you would be interested in – be sure to let me know! You can either drop me an email, or leave a comment, or DM me on IG here!

Happy planning and creating the home of your dreams in 2020!
